Scarlett Update

Once again, posts have been few and far between due to the fact that Scarlett has been immemsely busy over the past month. With routines to perfect, showreels to create, and auditions to attend life has been hectic to say the least.

The World Bodypainting event is also still running in the background - although the painting was done months ago and is merely a distant memory, apart from the beautiful photos - there is still the photography award to be decided. And of course, the photocatalogue and festival tv video to arrive.

Scarlett has also stopped working in her 'other' job, meaning that she no longer feels like a superhero with a secret identity... it does make life much easier, although she still seems to never have enough hours in the day to achieve everything!

Bloom Festival

New images....

Scarlett Flame performing in the Tuaca Cabaret Lounge Tent, at the Bloom Fetival in Cheltenham last week. (8th August) Wearing her new Vegas Baby showgirl outfit - complete with fabulous tail feathers and feathered pasties.

A gift from a fabulous friend, and something that looks absolutely amazing. Its really quite revealing, but perfect for this routine, where Scarlett is showing off her legs... and removing her stockings without using her hands... Its based on the routine she used at Club Noir in Glasgow (hopefully video of this performance coming soon!)

The photos are courtesy of Stuart Woodward, a freelance photographer, based in the South East, who took them of Scarlett during her performance.

However, during this adventure Scarlett has realised just how much she is NOT a festival person - getting changed in tent in the dark, mud, cold, and stinking portaloos... these are not things that make Scarlett at all happy. Nor is navigating a muddy festival site in heels, carrying all the stuff one woman needs to perform something that fills her with joy.

But once again it was an interesting opportunity, and Scarlett does love to be onstage.

Scarlett's Return

So, Scarlett has returned from Austria...

An amazing, weird, surreal, fun time was had. Seeboden is a really small and pretty place, with views of Millstatter See and the festival grounds from our apartment. Lots of hills, a few interesting shops. Great cake. And a postbox in the side of the bus...

And here are the photos...

This is the first design, based on the theme "Science; world of wonder", and this is Scarlett during the stage presentation for this category. Friday was 5 hours of painting time, in tents in the festival grounds, followed by time in the photo area backstage and then the stage presentations. Really long day. But the design placed 18th, and won us a place in the final.

Next up, Saturday was the Face Award.

Two hours to paint and costume your model, again followed by time in the photo area and the stage presentations

This was taken backstage in one of the sculptures that lives where the fesitval site ends up.

These two are both of Scarlett on stage during the presentation of the face.

And finally, a fuzzy and out of focus "work in progress" shot of the design from the finals.

More Upcoming performances!

After the sucess of Dr Sketchy's Scarlett is also due to perform at Burlesque Idol in Club Noir on the 2nd August.

She also has dates lined up for Kabarett in Edinburgh, and at the Edinburgh Festival. As well as Bloom on the 8th August.

And possibly the Breast Cancer Ball in Leeds - she has an audition for that on the 7th, on her way to Cheltenham.

More dates coming soon, but Scarlett hopes to see you at one of these events!

More Discoveries with Tuaca...

This is another pic of Scarlett at the final event in Edinburgh for Tuaca, held in the Southern.

Scarlett was joined by an excellent band called Conflict Diamonds, who you can find on myspace.

These events were also being used to find performers for the Cabaret Tent at the Bloom Festval in Cheltenham with the best performers from each city invited there to perform. Scarlett is therefore performing at Bloom on the 8th August!

Scarlett will be appearing at Dr Sketchy's in the Arches in Glasgow.

Sunday 27th July.

She will be performing at the open stage section of the session, with a three minute routine, danced en pointe to Love Potion Number 9... also known as her Shocking Stocking Routine, where she takes off her stockings using her feet.

It has to be seen to be believed!

Final Countdown

10 days to go until Scarlett leaves for Austria... and another painting session planned for this weekend.

Scarlett is starting to get somewhat nervous now, as it all seems to have arrived rather more quickly than expected. But everything is planned, and everything is booked, so there is really no backing out now.

Its been a very very quick journey from someone who felt so shy and self-concious to someone who has already had 3 reasonably sucessful performances in public. And hopefully more in the process of being lined up... But there is still more that is not posted here, and hopefully Scarlett will have time to update properly either before she leaves or when she returns. It has been a really quick 6 months, and hopefully the next 6 will be just as much fun.

The last performance of this run for the Tuaca promotion is at a bar called Southern, on South Clerk Street in Edinburgh... see you there!

So how was it? Terrifying... and fun, and actually weirdly enjoyable in some ways. Good response from the audience. Lots of cheering and clapping. And offers to buy me drinks afterwards, and nobody who I told believed that it was my first night. So that should make me feel better, right?

Debut

As ever Scarlett's posts have been few and far between... this week has been particuarly hectic with Scarlett preparing for her first performances. She has been booked for 4 consecutive performances by a company launching a new drink - the Lounge Group, who are launching Tuaca, an Italian liquer.

All of her performances will take place in Edinburgh, with her first one happening yesterday... which was at Bar Aspen.

Pictures will follow shortly... as will the ones which have not yet been taken of Scarlett's next BodyPainting adventure due to take place tomorrow.

Devil Paint

Since Scarlett is busy updating her blog, with all of the shoots that she has not managed to get online yet, here are a couple of shots from the "devil" paint that we tried many weeks ago. Really simple really effective, but unbelievably difficult to get off again. Certain colours seem to stain the skin more than others - red and blue being very hard to remove. Hence the reason that Scarlett remained a little pink several showers after this one, and after the "Chaos" paint had blue knees... looking like a pissed off smurf.

But these are small difficulties, and for the most part it is actually immensely good fun being made to look totally different. Obviously the design for Austria will be much more elaborate than something like this, which is comparison is fairly quick to create - although the 50's pin-up accessories make for a really fabulous look. Plus it was a great excuse to break out the thigh high boots that she is very fond of!

Austria, as mentioned in an earlier post, is approaching pretty rapidly, and Scarlett is starting to get more than a little nervous. Tony - her trusty photographer is also pretty busy with work commitments for the next few weeks and so the next definate plan is for a trial run of some designs towards the end of June.

Scarlett was booked last weekend to do a shoot with a new photographer. A young guy by the name of inesperado. (He can be found at http://www.inesperado.co.uk/).

He is the middle of creating a series of images based on the Greek Gods, and asked Scarlett to be Perspehone. These are some of the images that he shot of Scarlett - mainly in her newest wig, which she is rather fond of.

Once again Scarlett has found another wig to play with meaning yet another image change. Its is becoming more and more apparent that not only does Scarlett's look change really quite dramatically when she alters her hair, but it even affects her personality, depending on the length, style and colour.

Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year Competition.

After trying on some specs of a friend, Scarlett decided to embark on a glasses shoot - all the kind of saucy secretary look type of pictures. And then fate lent a hand, as ever, by sending her flatmate a flyer for the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

As someone who is supposed to wear glasses, Scarlett is eligable to enter. And has done so... With this little gem of a picture.

As ever Scarlett has been busy since her last post... things are always moving quickly. It is now less than 6 weeks until she is due to leave for Austria - and she is beginningt to get rather nervous. However, she has been shopping! Mostly buying fabulous bikinis - including a bright pink one, and a black one covered in Diamantes... some things never change!

But the rest of the prep is going well - and she has had several more photoshoots - some of which are below...

Scarlett is really quite fond of this hat... but only as a redhead. And she was really quite pleased to find a set of underwear that goes with it quite so well! Other people seem to find it slightly strange that she buys things that match her underwear... but it does make a change from her buying things that match her hair...

Yet another chance for Scarlett to show off her love of changing her look. They are obviously extentions, but you would be amazed at what she gets away with!

As for the wigs - it never stops surprising people just how different she looks. Something as simple as changing the colour of her hair makes Scarlett look like a different woman.

Along with the body paint trials, Scarlett has still been working on her portfolio... Sessions surrounded by new hats and shoes, as well as one with a sword. Mainly Scarlett has been shopping and just likes showing off her new purchases...

But she has long since wanted to try some shots using swords and pointe work... her warrior photos.. below:

And to start the shoe shoot - one of Scarlett's favourite pairs of boots. Made by New Rock, and fabulously armour plated. They make a normally timy Scarlett into one that stands well over 5'8"... Brilliantly intimidating and surprisingly comfortable, they are actually some of Scarlett's regular going out wear.

And then we move onto the Stripper Shoes - wonderful. And used these to Goth up the pose used in the Midnight Poison ad - chosen because it is Scarlett's favourite perfume.

Trial Run #1

So much has been happening in the past few weeks meaning that Scarlett has not been finding the time to post. However, a free evening and some time to herself means that now seems like the ideal time to post some of the body paint creations that happened over a weekend at the beginning of April.

As she told you in her first post, Scarlett has been asked to perform at the World Bodypainting Championships in Austria this July. These are some demos painted by the artist who will be painting her... Part of the idea was that we needed to find out just how ticklish Scarlett is, and how comfortable she is just wearing a coat of paint. As well as some time for new and old friends to meet up and hang out for a while.

This design was based on Chaos and Creation, and took the artist about 4 hours to produce. (although that included lots of breaks and time to gossip) It took much much longer to get all the smurf blue back off again though! It is a really strange feeling to be wandering about in a coat of paint. The artist told me ages ago that it does not feel like being naked, and weirdly that is actually true. Very quickly you forget that all you are wearing is a very small g-string... Its very hard to explain, because you feel covered, but not, somehow. And it is very strange to be a walking artwork...

Certain bits of Scarlett are really ticklish though... and not always the bits that you might expect since it is mainly across the bottom of her back.

But anyway, here are the results...

Scarlett has been very busy for the past wee while, hence the fact that there have been no updates here. She has been indulging in her usual pastimes of shopping, dancing and sleeping. As well as the occasional bit of working. She spent last weekend shopping in Glasgow - and was remarkably restrained in Agent Provocateur. But did go nuts in Hellfire - buying a gorgeous 50's style chiffon prom dress (black with a red satin band) as well as more hair dye. For a bit of a change, she is going to try "Fushia Shock" from Manic Panic when she next fixes her roots . And from past experience this will NOT be the night before a photo shoot! (Pink, Magenta and Fushia hair dyes all have a horrible habit of spreading for a few days after you use them - even when you have rinsed everything out of your hair - Scarlett's whole life is tinged with pink - her straighteners, towls, bathroom, and often her fingers, ears and other random body parts... Not to mention the times that she has dyed other people pink from lying on them or hugging them...)

On top of this she has been learning GIMP to build her new website. As previously discussed, Scarlett is not a fan of technology "it misbehaves... and not in a fun way" apparently. But slowly it is all taking shape. Full details and links will appear once this is all working properly...

On top of this her photographer has been busy too - working and such like so the two of them are getting rather severe withdrawal symptoms from the lack of pictures going on at the moment. Next shoot is booked for the 16th, and hopefully updates will be on here soon after. In the meantime, here are yet more highlights from previous shoots...

Here are the first in selection of pictures taken by Graeme Findlay. He's a photographer Scarlett worked with previously, when she was only doing make-up and body art. He asked her loads of times to model for him, and she kept refusing (hey, anyone heard this before???) But eventually relented. He can be found at http://www.bytor.co.uk/ .

As for the outfits...these are some of my favourite shoes. Difficult to walk in, but gorgeous. 6" spike heel - and Scarlett has 4 different pairs. 3 black, one red.

Once again Scarlett tightlaced. Black on black is as ever, difficult to see - one day I promise there will be pictures on here so you can see how small a 20" waist looks!

I love that hat! Really, Scarlett has a bit of a thing for hats (yes, as well as the shoes, corsets, stockings and makeup that you already know about!) But those ones in particular are quite foxy.

And for now Scarlett doing a very good job of looking cute and innocent..

Busy Weekend...

Another busy weekend for Scarlett - Saturday was another blaze of photos and fun.

The morning wandering about in medievel finery and the afternoon painted as a Geisha... along with a few other fun things. The paint job was pretty stressful - difficult to move or smoke - but the results are more than worth the hassle. Good experience as well, if a little tickly... It was not created by a professioanl body painter, and so the results are not as good as you could expect if you hired a pro... but we were aiming for an overall look, an idea rather than perfection...

Once again these were all taken by Tony Burns - one very talented gentleman! He has done an amazing job of putting Scarlett at ease, and making the whole experience one that she actually enjoys.

So here are the newest ones... The ones in the bath are fabulous, and I absolutely adore the

ones peeping through the keyhole. They work really well with the retro look, even if the water was freezing!

The Geisha isn't perfect - and to be honest looks a little creepy to me. I think its the way it makes Scarlett look kind of severe. But it is a great picture. Again, these ones show another totally different side of Scarlett, and I think that is the appeal.

Actually several shoots are beginning to all blur together now, so some of these are all out of sequence. Its not important, but these are from some of the days I have not mentioned yet. They are from another almost all day shoot - a large chunk of which was creating the corset lacing -which would not have been possible without my dedicated hair/makeup/costume person. Who, as ever, did an amazing job. It actually looks quite realistic, and I would happily have it done again, even for a night out...

This was another all day shoot - creating almost 500 pictures in one day, and leaving me spoilt for choice about which ones I like best!

Here are the highlights of the first half of the day...

And here are the highlights of the second half of the day... With the first of the dramatic changes to Scarlett's appearance. Gone is the vibrant magenta, replaced with a black barrel curl wig. These really surprised everyone, just with quite how different they make Scarlett appear. It seems to affect her personality as much as her looks! But they also resulted in some of my favourite images so far. A day very well spent!

So, as you have probably guessed, Day One was pretty busy... sucessful, but busy. And I think somewhere along the line Scarlett had some fun. Actually, I know she had fun, but then spent the next few days feeling pretty scared about actually seeing the results.

That was pretty strange... and at times quite hard. But equally in quite a few of the pictures Scarlett really does not look like herelf. And I think everyone was pretty amazed that I really liked some of them... Its hard to look at a picture of yourself, and say "thats good" or "I like that", but with some of them I really do.

But of course, we did not stop there. Next up are the selected highlights of the next shoot or two... Already Scarlett is beginning to get happier and much more comfortable in front of the camera.

The story so far...

I figure that this is perhaps a good time to tell (and show) you all a little bit more about how Scarlett got this far...

In her past life, Scarlett was a support worker, helping people who were seeking treatment and help for drug and alcohol addiction. Before this she was a worker in a young people's drop-in centre, offering help and advice about absolutely anything. She has done a variety of other things too, but most of them not all that interesting! The drop-in centre in where a lot of this really started - hanging out with young people and jugglers tends to have that effect. We started teaching circus skills as a way of boosting our young people's confidence, as well as how to relax and have a laugh... But Scarlett caught the juggling bug too.

But this line of work gets stressful and more and more difficult as time goes on. Other people's misery can only be tolerated for so long before it starts to rub off on you - but I will leave the arguments for why workplaces are so crap at helping their staff deal with the stresses of the job for another day...And it does seem that actually a lot of these places end up with staff who are needier and more difficult than the client group. Some people go into the 'helping' services to fulfil a need of their own, rather than to actually help.

And so, eventually, Scarlett realised that sitting in an office all day was not really her thing, and that a sensible grown-up job was probably never going to make her happy. Let's be honest - she isn't really a sitting quietly and doing as she is told kinda gal. And frankly her talents are wasted in an office all day! On top of this, most of her ex-workmates would not approve of Scarlett if they knew the truth - they find her enough of an enigma as it is.

Unfortunately for them, they will probably never know the real Scarlett...

But what made Scarlett change her career? Well, funding for voluntary sector work, especially with drug and alcohol users, is short term, and difficult to find the money to do them properly. And that is another stress - year to year contracts and constantly wondering if you will have a job by the end of the financial year. And never being told before March if you do... Its hardly secure and its really no fun.

So this combined with a close friend asking Scarlett if she would consider a trip to Austria to model for the World Bodypainting Championships led Scarlett to some very interesting thoughts. Scarlett used to have a real issue with her self-confidence... (don't make the mistake of thinking that this is all fixed and Scarlett adores herself - she has the same hang-ups as just about every other woman on the planet!) and the thought of dancing in front of a several thousand strong crowd in nothing but a coat of Dulux scared her absolutely rigid...

Sometimes I wonder why Scarlett said yes without fully thinking through the implications of such a plan... but maybe it was a combination of timing, and being in need of a change, and maybe a few other things that I will perhaps share with you one day...

But Scarlett did say yes. And then her friends rallied round to help her prepare. And thats where the photograhpy comes in. Scarlett used to be the one hiding from the camera, refusing to let anyone take photos of her, and on the rare occasions that they managed, she hated the result. But Austria is going to be full of photographers... And she would make a pretty crap bodypaint model if nobody was allowed to take a photo of her!

But having spoken to a friend of hers - who has been a keen photographer for years, she decided to give it a go.

Welcome to the world of Scarlett Flame.

Scarlett has decided to create this new 'blog' as a record of her time as a burlesque performer, model and artiste, as well as to offer you a more personal glimpse of the Scarlett you see both on stage and in pictures. Many of her newest images will be displayed here first, and, time permitting, she will record some of her major events and thoughts for you.

If there are specific things that you'd like to know about me, you can email me, or post on here and I will answer as many as I can. Please keep them clean - tease is one thing, smut is quite another!

So, here are some things you probably don't know about Scarlett...

Scarlett wil not reveal her age - after all, a lady never tells!
Scarlett is corset trained. She has been a tighlacing lady for many years and currently laces down to around 20" every day. This raises many eyebrows where she lives! She loves to lace, and maintains that this is not painful or uncomfortable.
Scarlett has one tattoo - maybe one day she will tell you where and what!
Scarlett stands a tiny 5'2" tall - but few people realise this as she is rarely seen without killer heels.
The rest of Scarlett's vital statistics are : when laced 36 - 20 - 35, and when unlaced 36 - 25 - 35. Almost a perfect hourglass...
Scarlett's feet are a tiny UK size 3.
The only piercings that Scarlett has are her ears and her nose. She keeps considering having one put in her lip - but the pain and her fear of needles stops this becoming more than a thought!
Scarlett has a selection of wigs which she loves to play with, and gains a lot of amusement from changing her image. Her 'real' hair is long, and usually dyed to a vivid magenta-red. Please do not ask what Scarlett's natural hair colour is - she has not seen it for so long that she barely remembers!
Scarlett has many unusual skills and talents - including juggling, hoola-hooping, fire juggling, poi-spinning, and she is a talented artist in her own right. Alongside burlesque she works as a make-up artist, and as a body artist(more of this work will appear on her webiste as time permits) as well as creating interesting artwork and costumes as well.
Scarlett is an outragous flirt - she loves to make people blush, whilst looking very innocent!
Scarlett is a fan of all things feminine and glamourous; she loves shoes (the bigger the heel the better!) adores to shop, and is proud to be a curvy lady who is the shape that women should be...
Scarlett is a smoker - her cigarettes of choice are menthol, but she also enjoys fine cigars. She hates the smoking ban - being forced to smoke outside in the rain is considered inhumane. But what she really objects to is the lack of choice in the matter...This is perhaps a post for another day.
